The mind of a student

School can be incredibly draining and stressful for students, often leading to significant mental health challenges. The mental well being of students all around the country have been faced with hardship and overwhelming expectations. Tragically, suicide has become the second leading cause of death for adolescents and young adults and this has become the reality for many students.

The pressures that come with being an A student or just passing your classes can feel like a make or break moment. Sometimes students feel as though the fate of their future is determined by a grade and this ultimately impacts their mental health as a whole. While the idea of therapy can be difficult to consider, approximately 30% of adolescents and 20% of adults sought therapy this year, reflecting a growing willingness to seek help for mental health challenges.

In order to face this epidemic properly we must provide support to students all around the country. Students should be informed about the resources available to them, as seeking support from school counselors can be incredibly beneficial for their well-being. Sometimes talking to a trusted adult, like a professor or a family member can be beneficial as well. The pressures of social media and societal expectations can make being a student feel like carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders. Overall, we need to help students and provide them with tools to tackle their mental health in school.
